AMERICAN BEARS IN TROUBLE

GRIZZLY BEARS BROWN BEARS BLACK BEARS AND POLAR BEARS

In North America, the grizzly's penchant for solitude has long made it a symbol of the frontier spirit. But despite its rugged image, experts say, the grizzly bear is more vulnerable to human activity than any other wildlife species in the northern Rockies. Roughly 1,500 grizzlies now inhabit the lower 48 states, down from as many as 100,000 in the early 1800s.

Something about bears...

It has been said that bears are the dolphins of the woodlands. Native people thought of them as the spirit of the forests.

Environmentalists recognize them as an integral part of a healthy eco-system.

Bears have a rich and diverse history. Their timid nature brings serenity to the highlands. Bears have a presence that goes beyond words.

As people learn more about them, their fears are replaced with  understanding, compassion and a peaceful coexistence!

BLACK BEARS ARE BEING  POACHED IN THE U.S.A

Many bears are being shot through out the U.S. and Canada and having their gall bladders removed to be sold on the black market. Some bears have their claws and paws removed also sold on the black market.

What Is the Problem?

Demand for bear gallbladders, bile, and paws has made bears more valuable dead than alive. The sum of saleable parts can make a dead bear worth in excess of $10,000. An average sized bear gallbladder commands as much as $3,400 in Asia. A single serving of bear paw soup in an exclusive restaurant in Asia can fetch as much as $1,400. Asian countries such as China and South Korea are the leading consumers of bear products.

Polar bears are at risk and global warming is to blame.

As warmer temperatures cause sea ice to melt, the bears are unable to hunt and make it safely back to shore.
